Thunder Thursday Long Beach Grand Pix

Thunder Thursday April 14 is part of the Long Beach Grand Pix week long celebration. This year’s thunder Thursday is once again sponsored by Long Beach’s favorite beer from south of the border, Tacate. Of course there will be cars on display, but wait there’s a whole lot more. What would a party be without music? Tacate harnessed their partying experience to line up some musical talent to entertain the car loving folks of Long Beach.

Keeping with the LB Grand Prix theme there will be a pit stop contest. If you ever wanted to know what it’s like working as part of the pit crew, now you can find out. I wonder if the music will add atmosphere to the pit stop contest. With music or no music I think this will be interesting part of the festivities. Maybe not as entertaining as wild cow milking at the old Brawley Cattle Call, but it should be a good show. And I bet the cars have a lot more horse power than a wild cow.

Next on the agenda are several extremely popular past times of the American male, all rolled into one. With these three elements one could make a pretty good country song, cold beer, fast cars, and beautiful women. Yes, it’s the “Tacate Miss Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Pageant.” That’s a long name and along with the beer, cars, and women you get a great town thrown in for free.

Enjoy the grand Pix experience.

Long Beach Grand Prix

I wonder if collecting cars can be called a sport. Well any way, we are coming up to the grand daddy of Long Beach motor sports, yes, you guessed it. I’m talking about the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. I should have started building this site a little earlier. I hate to say it, but I’m too late to get a press pass to this event. Oh well, I will still cover it as an outsider.

I can remember working at the grand prix when I was in school. That was a long time ago. I wonder if that qualifies me as part of long beach grand prix history. I also covered the grand prix when I had a local cable television program in Long Beach. That was when there were real local cable TV station. Now it seems all the cable stations are owned by a few big players. In my book that makes local not so local.

Getting back to the Long Beach Grand Prix, it’s a weeklong plus event of excitement and speed. The grand prix starts at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday the 9th with round 1 of the formula drift racing championship season and ends Sunday April 19th at 5:30 p.m. when the Lifestyle Expo closes. There will be over a week of fun in Long Beach. From reading the Long Beach gp website it looks like this will be a week of fast cars, hot women, and cold beer. That’s enough to stir the adolescent in all of us.
